Celebrating Nurses Month with SMU's College of Nursing
At Oaklandish, we've always been passionate about partnering with local institutions that share our commitment to uplifting communities and driving positive change. That's why we're thrilled to announce our latest collaboration with Samuel Merritt University's (SMU) College of Nursing, an esteemed institution with deep roots in the Oakland community.
How It All Began
When SMU approached us with the idea of collaborating on a project to celebrate Nurses Month, we were immediately intrigued. As a 115-year-old Oakland institution, SMU's College of Nursing embodies the spirit of our city—resilient, diverse, and dedicated to making a difference. Their mission to drive health equity and promote positive change in the healthcare industry resonated deeply with our own values.
A State of Excellence T-Shirt Design
Inspired by SMU's commitment to excellence and diversity in healthcare, the "A State of Excellence" t-shirt design is a true reflection of California's rich tapestry of communities. Featuring iconic landmarks from San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, and Fresno, the design pays homage to the varied landscapes nurses serve. Sunbeams on a horizon symbolizing health equity and a caduceus representing nursing are set alongside SMU blue, red, and apricot—the symbolic color of nursing. 10% of the proceeds from the "A State of Excellence" t-shirt collaboration will go towards SMU scholarships which play a crucial role in supporting the education of future nurses.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Christine Quattro, Director of Development for Nursing at SMU, remarked, "This collaboration between SMU's College of Nursing and Oaklandish holds immense importance for both institutions. It's a testament to our shared commitment to promoting diversity in healthcare and reinvesting in our community. Through initiatives like this, we not only celebrate Nurses Month but also empower the next generation of nurses to continue making a difference."
